Making your appointment
To schedule an appointment to be fit for hearing aids, you will need to have a comprehensive hearing evaluation that has been completed within the last six months by a licensed audiologist. If you have one, please mail or fax it to us indicating on the paperwork that you are interested in obtaining hearing aids.
If you do not have results of a current hearing test, you may schedule one with us by calling (225) 343-4232 ext. 6902.
After the evaluation
Our audiologists will go over your test results and help you select your hearing aids and program them to meet your needs. Because of the many styles and brands of hearing aids that are available, our audiologists work closely with you to ensure you’re fitted with one that best fits your needs, degree of hearing loss, and lifestyle.
During your hearing aid fitting, our audiologists will explain how to use your hearing aids, put them in the ear and remove them, change their batteries, and care for and clean them. It can be helpful to bring a family member or close friend to your fitting so they can help remember all the information that is given and be a support to you.
When you put the hearing aids in for the first time, you may have different emotions about the sounds you hear. This is normal and to be expected. The goal of the hearing aid is to make everyday sounds audible and comfortable. Small changes can be made to the hearing aids at your first fitting if there are things that you feel should be adjusted right away.
It’s important to remember that success with your hearing aid goes beyond purchasing them. Your initial hearing aid fitting is a starting place. Other changes to customize the hearing aid to your liking may need to take place over a few appointments. As you wear the hearing aids in more situations and adapt to all the new sounds you are hearing, you may want additional adjustments over time. We will be with you throughout the process!
Attitude is one important key to success with hearing aids. Hearing aid studies have shown that people who have a positive attitude do better with hearing aids. If you and your family approach your hearing aid fitting with a positive outlook, you will have a much better listening experience more quickly.
